Many people receive a new puppy without knowing how to properly house train it. A puppy that has just been taken from its litter should be taught where to go potty.
House training a puppy is hard, especially if you’re gone for long hours during the day. Dogs are natural animals and they need to pee when they feel like it. If they aren’t potty trained yet and you don’t give them an option to do their business indoors, then they’ll find one for themselves on your carpet or floor.
Doggie pee pads can be used in any room of your home or apartment with tile floors. Simply place the pad on the floor where you want your dog to go potty. The pads will absorb most liquids immediately, including urine, feces, vomit and other messes that dogs make while house training.
When not in use as a training aid, these pads can also serve as wonderful pet mats for pets who like to lounge around on the floor at home or in hotels. You can even put them under feeding stations so spills won’t get all over your floor.
When using them for potty training, your puppy or fully grown dog can be trained to go just where you want them to go with a little patience and effort.
First of all, you should always remember that punishing a dog after an accident is not a good idea. While it used to be common practice, it does not make sense to get angry at a puppy since they are usually too young to understand what is wrong, even if you scold or punish them right after catching them going inside.
Furthermore, you could cause your dog to become afraid of you or even get scared to go potty in the designated area.
Your pet will need positive reinforcement whenever it uses the pee pads to do its business. Give your dog lots of affection by petting it and telling it good job, or use treats to let them know that they did exactly as you asked.
As long as your dog understands that praise and rewards are linked to good behavior, then you’ll be able to continue training them how you want them to behave.
Place a dog pee pad in every room in the house where your dog will spend most of his time. It will help them to identify the smell of the pad. Dog owners often keep a dog pee pad near where they take their pet outside to help link the pad with taking the dog out.
Throughout the training process, you should pay close attention to your dog’s behavior, so you can learn about his habits. Often, dogs will pacing around as they prepare to go to the bathroom, so you can watch what they are doing and direct them to where you have placed the pee pad.
You should remove the pad as soon as they go and replace it with a fresh one so that they can use a clean pad next time.
Within a few weeks, your dog should be able to go on the doggie pee pads every time they have to relieve themselves.
