Dog Training Equipment For Your New Pup

By Admin

It is the responsibility of new owners to house train their dogs. However, when the dog is used to living in a shelter, this can be challenging. Fortunately, the right equipment can make it easier.

Prior to going to a pet store and preferably before bringing home their new dog, it is important for every new dog owner to take the time to learn about any training equipment they wish to purchase.

Buckle Or Quick Connect Collar

A buckle or quick connect collar is an excellent option for new owners who own a dog that has no major behavioral issues. It is the standard collar you see on most dogs. This is the kind with the plastic buckle. A collar of this type is prone to breaking when worn by unruly dogs.

Breakaway Collar

New puppy owners should consider breakaway collars. If the collar becomes too tight, it automatically unhinges. Consequently, it won’t choke the growing dog. As long as a leash is attached, the mechanism that causes the collar to unhinge does not work.

Slip Collar (The Choker)

Slip collars are worn in much the same way that regular ones do, except they slip over the head instead of being fastened. It’s best for training dogs that are difficult to control. The collar applies pressure to the neck if the dog is pulling or tugging hard.

E-Collar (Electronic)

An e-collar should not be used by people who are not professional dog trainers. It is a device where a high pitch sound or a small shock is applied to the dog’s neck to correct a certain behavior.

Nylon, Leather And Cotton Leashes

Leashes made of nylon, leather and cotton are excellent leashes for dogs in training who are unfamiliar with walking on a leash. They keep the dog at an easy-to-handle distance because they don’t stretch as the dog moves away. With this model, any unwanted behavior can be corrected easily by tugging on the leash.

Retractable Leashes

You can easily store a retractable leash. It automatically retracts into the handle when not in use. When training a dog on a leash, the standard leash needs to be used first, as this leash allows for a lot more flexibility and distance mobility. These leashes are often used to teach pet dogs to control themselves when granted a degree of independence.

Crates Or Kennels

It’s not challenging to train with crates. Whenever a dog uses its crate, the owner should react positively. The owner should also reward the dog. After a few weeks, you’ll find that the dog goes into the crate on your command and you can eliminate the reward.

When going out, many dog owners leave their dogs in crates. This keeps the animal from chewing up the furniture or soiling the carpet. You can find crates that come with food and water compartments. This is helpful if the owner has to keep their pets in the crate for longer periods of time, such as when they go to work.

These are some of the first items you should buy for your dog when you bring it home. Every dog has their own needs. As your dog gets used to his new surroundings, you should watch how it behaves. If you get an older, well-mannered pet, you may need only half the items listed here.
