Choose The Right Dog Repellents For Your Yard

By Admin

Some people do not like to clean up after other people’s pets no matter how much they love dogs. The use of dog repellents could solve your problem if dogs that don’t belong to you foul in your yard.

Dog Repellents You Can Make At Home

Several common household products are known to repel dogs. To remain effective, the solutions need to be applied frequently. Still, they are a more cost-effective option to store-bought items.

White distilled vinegar is effective and natural in deterring dogs. Ammonia can also be used. Both products have the advantage of being extremely effective. They can, however, only be used in certain areas. You may need to consider an alternative solution if you have flowers or shrubs around the perimeter of your yard.

Peel from citrus fruit is sometimes recommended as a repellent. Citrus-scented areas will deter cats and dogs from fouling, but most people would not consider them practical. In order to produce the necessary amount you would have to go through a lot of oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, and the peel would not be attractive in a yard.

Commercial Dog Repellent Products

In order to capitalize on a dog’s dislike of citrus smells, there are better options. Commercial products that contain lemon or orange scents are more effective for keeping animals away.

The products are available in the form of sprays or granules. Just like vinegar, these solutions will need to be applied regularly. The smell of citrus in your yard may not be to your liking, in which case you may want to consider alternative products.

It is common for dogs to go to the same location. You can recognize these spots by their scent. Consequently, products that mask or deodorize the familiar smells may discourage dogs from returning.

Gadget Solutions

Other products besides sprays and granules might be of interest. There are gadgets and systems available that you can add to your yard.

In spite of the fact that scarecrow sprinkler systems are motion activated, they are not the cheapest option. When you consider the cost of applying commercial deterrents again, it stands to reason that scarecrows are more effective. Other pests are also deterred by sprinklers.

Ultrasound devices which emit high frequency waves are also available. It is impossible for people to hear the pitch, but dogs and other animals will stay away. It can be set to continuously emit sounds or to respond to motion.

Dogs and other animals can be a real nuisance if they decide your yard is their own personal bathroom. If you’re in the latter category and don’t want dogs pottying on your lawn or property, make sure to use dog repellents that are safe for both humans and animals. Use these suggestions to find a solution that works for you.
